In the Scene with New Politics

One thing you should definitely not discuss at the dinner table with your family is politics. A slight jab at an opposing party can send mashed potatoes and asparagus flying around the room, barely missing your parents’ china hutch. Not that this has happened before… But if you want to send your family on a brief whirlwind of emotions, bring up New Politics. While at first they hold their breath, getting squinty-eyed on what parliamentary issues they believe you are about to bring up, following the name “New Politics” with a phrase similar to, “are the most crowd pleasing band you need to go see,” might go over a little more smoothly.
Sound dramatic? We’re not joking. Scene:ORL had the opportunity, no, privilege, to see New Politics at the 2018 Angry Orchard Rock the Roots tour in Orlando on August 25th. And might we add, we were amazed. With just under an hour-long set, the boys who make up the band wowed the crowd with their ebullient attitude and performing skills – skills, which include breakdancing. Yes. BREAKDANCING.
David Boyd, Søren Hansen and Louis Vecchio gave us everything we didn’t know we needed. From showing us their musicality on the piano, drums, ukulele, and vocals, these three sang songs that had the crowd throwing their hands in the air and jamming along. Also in the air was Søren’s guitar as he launched it easily 10 feet into the air only to be caught on the next strum, and David as he did a backflip off Louis’s drum set; which David then busted out a couple of b-boy moves that we are pretty sure should have been asterisked as, “WARNING: Do Not Try This At Home.” Aside from risking a few injuries we would be prone to, the trio gave us crowd favorites like, “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” and “Color Green,” which sounded just as good live as it does on their albums. They also performed “One of Us” which had been featured over the summer in one of the trailers for Disney’s Christopher Robin.
Overall, the showmanship from these three can only be described as incredible. And on that alone, we know they have gained a wider following walking off stage that evening. If you missed their Orlando stop, New Politics will be back in Florida November 19th in Jacksonville. If you’re questioning traveling to Jacksonville, don’t. There is no hesitation when we say the show will be worth it so there should be no question to go. Here, we will even make it easy for you: Buy Tickets Here
